The weather this time of year tends to cause a lot of us to experience a lot of dryness to occur in our hair that we don’t typically do during the other seasons. Moisturizing winter skin is different than moisturizing your skin during the other seasons. You already know we’re always about keeping you in the know, and since you’re probably already starting to experience some frustrations with your skin being pretty dry – we’re sharing our favorite tips for moisturizing winter skin so you can get some relief and get ahead of the struggles before it gets any worse.
Change Your Moisturizer
One of the biggest mistakes people tend to make with their winter moisturizing routine is using the same moisturizing products they do the rest of the year. But since your skin is a lot drier this time of year, it has different needs than it does the other months. This being said, it’s important that you actually change the moisturizing products that you’re using. Experts suggest that you switch to moisturizers that are heavier and thicker in consistency. Since your skin is much drier than it is during the other months it can handle a moisturizer that’s heavier and creamier than it may be able to handle during the other months. Of course the only thing you’re going to want to be sure of is that you don’t choose a moisturizer that’s oily or greasy. In addition, you’re going to want to make sure that you’re applying your moisturizing products more often this time of year to really get your skin that moisture it needs.
Just like you need to apply moisturizing products more often, you need to also make sure that you’re on a consistent routine with exfoliating your skin. Exfoliating is important all year long, but especially crucial when the winter months roll around. Exfoliating helps to get rid of dead skin cells that may be built up on your skin, and those dead skin cells can actually prevent your skin from really soaking up the moisturizing products you’re applying – see why it’s so important? Get into the habit of exfoliating your skin on a regular basis – most experts suggest 2-3 times per week. And this doesn’t just apply to the skin on your face, make sure you’re exfoliating your ENTIRE body.
Don’t Forget Anywhere
When it comes to taking care of our skin, we tend to really focus on the major areas like our face, arms and legs. But the thing is…ALL of our skin needs moisture – especially this time of year. Don’t forget to exfoliate and moisturize all the areas of your skin. Most people tend to neglect their neck, chest, hands and feet when it comes to really getting good at keeping your skin moisturized this time of year. These areas are incredibly affected by the winter weather, so make sure you’re not skipping them!
