When you think of cleansing your skin you probably think about using a cleansing skin care product that you purchase from a skin care company. However, with the rise in using natural products and ingredients the last couple of years, so many people are discovering other ways to accomplish certain skin care and beauty needs that so many of us may have never thought of even trying before. We’re talking about using olive oil to clean skin. Yep, you read that correctly the ingredient that you probably use to cook with can also be used to cleanse your skin.
Before you panic thinking that using OIL to cleanse your skin will add more oil to your skin…that’s actually not the case here. So often we worry about applying oil to our skin in fear that it will cause us to have to deal with more skin oil concerns and struggles and lead us to having more breakouts and such. But when using a natural oil like olive oil to cleanse your skin, it doesn’t do that. The real theory behind using olive oil to cleanse your skin is that the olive oil helps to eliminate any oil that has built up in your skin. It’s actually been found that oil helps to dissolve other oil – hence why it can be so effective at actually assisting in eliminating oil trapped in your skin currently.
Not only has using olive oil to cleanse your skin been found to be beneficial in eliminating oil from your face, but it’s also been found to act as a makeup remover. Talk about a two for one type of product, right? So while with traditional cleansers you need to remove your makeup prior to cleansing your skin, many have found that they can skip that step because the oil is so effective in taking makeup off of your face AND cleansing your skin at the same time.
Since adding moisture and hydration is such a crucial aspect of a healthy skin care routine, olive oil is also boosted for its ability to add a lot of really healthy moisture to the skin when used as a cleanser. In fact, some people have noticed that they barely need to apply any moisturizing products after using oils to cleanse because of this benefit.
Not sure how to actually go about using olive oil to cleanse your skin? Well the good news is it’s REALLY easy to use. Experts suggest beginning the cleansing process by placing a damp, warm washcloth on your face to warm up your skin and open your pores. Once you’ve held the washcloth on your skin for at least 20-30 seconds, simply begin massaging the olive oil into your skin ALL over. After you’ve massaged the oil onto all of your skin that needs to be cleansed, let it sit on your skin for a bit – experts typically suggest around 30 seconds. After that, simply use a warm, damp washcloth to begin removing the oil from your skin. And you’re done!
