Brighten Up That Dull Skin

Published: August 4, 2017

Dull skin is…well, dull! Achieving that ‘JLo Glow’ is something most of us aspire to have, let’s be honest with ourselves. While we can WANT glowing, gorgeous skin actually achieving it is something entirely different. Figuring out what adjustments to make (if any) in your skin care routine to beat that dull skin can be overwhelming, we know! There are so many skin care products that promise to brighten up that dull skin, but you may have tried them without acquiring the results you were hoping for. We’re getting down to the basics to share some of our favorite tips to brighten up that dull skin so you can finish out the summer with GLOWING skin.

We share the benefits of exfoliating skin quite often around here, but it’s because the benefits are incredible. When your skin is built up with dead skin cells on the surface, and has a layer of ‘stuff’ it’s pretty difficult to achieve that bright skin glow. In fact, many experts also share that when our skin isn’t well exfoliating it can be difficult for our skin care products to become fully absorbed into the skin. That being said, it’s time to get on track with a consistent exfoliating routine. For the best results and that true skin brightness, exfoliating your skin 2-3 times a week is going to help tremendously.

Adjust Your Moisturizer
If your skin has been looking dull lately, it’s a common sign that it’s lacking enough moisture and hydration. Even if you’re using a moisturizer in your skin care routine, it may not be enough for your skin’s needs. This time of year, especially, it’s common for our skin to need some additional moisture. Switching your moisturizer to a different formula that’s a bit more moisturizing and hydrating can make the world of a difference. It may seem simple, but achieving that brightened skin doesn’t have to be all that difficult! Take a look at the moisturizer’s formula you’re currently using to determine the adjustments you need to make in your next formula. Get into the habit of applying the moisturizer willingly and consistently throughout your skin care routine for the best result.

Add a Serum to the Mix
Serums are great because of their ability to give our skin a huge dose of concentrated ingredients that it’s not able to obtain from the basic products in our skin care routine (i.e. cleanser, toner, moisturizer). These powerful skin care products are able to add to the hydration element in our skin, helping to get rid of that dullness you may be experiencing. Additionally, if you’re beginning to experience signs of aging in your skin serums are incredible for their anti-aging benefits-which can also help with the brightness. Similar to the moisturizer, choose a serum that’s really hydrating and loaded with ingredients that are going to help brighten and tone your skin’s surface.

See? Brightening up dull skin is really all about getting to the basics.
