Caring for Your Skin in the Spring

Spring is in the air, can you tell? It really is right around the corner, and after the gloomy winter months most of us are ready for the seasonal switch. Hopefully, you were catering your skin care to the winter months throughout the season. However, now that the seasons are gearing up for a change it’s time to take a look at your skin care routine and make sure you’re really caring for your skin in the spring. As the weather changes, our skin care routine needs to adjust with it to really keep our skin healthy and glowing. We want to make sure you have a smooth skin transition, so we’re sharing the key tips you need to know to keep your skin glowing this spring season.

SPF is Not an Option
One of the most exciting parts about the spring season is the fact that the weather gets warmer and the sun is out more often. But you know what that also means for our skin? It’s at a higher risk for sun damage. But all is ok, as long as you make sure that SPF isn’t an option throughout the spring season. Yep, you need to make sure that you’re applying SPF to your skin every single day. That also means no leaving the house unless you’ve applied your SPF in the morning.

Change Your Moisturizer
During the winter months, our skin tends to be pretty dry but as the weather shifts to the spring season we begin to have less dryness in our skin. It’s likely that you needed a heavier weight moisturizer to keep your skin well moisturized during the winter months, but now that your skin is going to have more natural moisture you’re going to want to make sure you shift your moisturizer accordingly. Switching out your moisturizer for something that’s lighter and not as heavy is going to make sure that you’re still giving your skin moisture and locking in the natural moisture, but not overdoing it with your heavy winter moisturizer.

Go Through Your Skin Care Products
When was the last time you went through your skin care products and got rid of anything you’ve had for a while? It’s ok, no judgement here. But, it is spring cleaning time–and the perfect time to go through your skin care products and really get rid of anything you haven’t used in a long time AND anything that you’ve had for a long time. The truth is, skin care products (and makeup) do have an expiration date and if you use them past those dates and times you’re not going to be doing your skin any favors. Go through and be honest about when you purchased/started using them–if it’s been longer than 6-9 months it’s time to toss them and start fresh to make sure that you’re keeping your skin healthy and happy all spring long. Keeping them for too long, the products begin to have bacteria build up and some ingredients can have a negative effect when they expire.
