Exfoliation is an essential part of a weekly skin care regimen which can help your skin to look and feel its most beautiful. The summer months aren’t a time where you want to shirk your skin care in this regard, due to the fact that you will more than likely be wearing shorts and baring more skin. Do you know how to exfoliate your skin properly, and how often? Lionesse has developed some helpful tips for you in the article below to help you develop a better exfoliation regimen, and to help give you an idea of what you should do to take proper care of your skin in that regard.

What is Exfoliation?
Exfoliation is the method of removing the top layer of dead skin by means of a body scrub, body polish, mask, peel, or other means. Exfoliation helps to bring new, fresh skin to the surface of the body, which in turn will give you more glowing, clear skin. It will also help the skin to begin producing new skin cells more efficiently, giving you healthier, less blemish prone skin over time.

How to Exfoliate for Summer
Exfoliation for summer is almost exactly the same as it would be for any other season. The difference during the summer months, though, is that you don’t actually need to exfoliate nearly as much as you may have during the winter months. During the winter, our skin has the tendency to become drier and requires much more attention due to dry artificial heat and air. Exfoliation is required up to twice per week. During the more humid months, however, when we are spending more time outdoors and our skin is exposed to more of the dewy humidity, our skin takes on some changes for the better, most times. The dryness begins to fade for most of us, and exfoliation is therefore only required once per week or once every 10 days or so.

Here is a simple guideline to follow to maintain your exfoliation regimen, or to begin one, for the summer:

  • Face – once per week – once every 10 days
  • Body – once or twice per week, depending on the area – feet generally need more attention during the summer to maintain sandal ready feet and toes

What Type of Exfoliants are Best for Summer
There are many different types of exfoliants available on the market, and there are many homemade recipes which you can whip up yourself to give yourself the best exfoliation experience possible.

During the summer, we love brightened, glowing skin. So, it’s due to that fact that Lionesse recommends completing a skin brightening exfoliation once per week, and anything thereafter should be to remove dead skin only if necessary.

One of the best exfoliants you can use for your face during the summer is the Lionesse Facial Exfoliator. This exfoliator comes with a formula that lets you enjoy a proper cleanse and also leaves behind a hydrated feel. Formulated using ingredients such as vitamin E and nut shell powder, this exfoliator is perfect for those searching for a gentle, yet effective, exfoliating experience. The presence of ingredients such as vitamin E also lets you heal your skin from the damage caused by free radicals.

Aside from a store bought exfoliator, you can make one of your own. Create a mix of sea salt or sugar, lemon juice, ginger tea, and a drop or two of essential oil, and honey. Mix into a paste, and apply to damp skin while in the shower for a perfect skin brightening exfoliating experience.
