Prom week is here, and though it’s an exciting time of daydreaming and thinking up the perfect dress, it’s also a time to begin taking care of your skin in overdrive. Lionesse brings you some tips to prep your skin during prom week so you can be proud of your prom photos for years to come.
Cleanse Twice & Moisturize
Cleansing your face once in the morning and once at night, followed by a good moisturizer, is key to getting and keeping beautiful skin. There’s more to it than meets the eye, though. According to top dermatologists and makeup artists, cleansing twice is the best course of action to take. Cleansing once removes the oil and debris from the skin, while cleansing a second time gives you a chance to get deeper into the skin, unclog pores, and remove traces of makeup or other products you may have missed. Plus –it will give you a fresh, clean feel. Moisturizer need only be applied once in the morning, and once at night. Be sure to use cleansers and moisturizers meant for your particular skin type, though.
Drink Plenty of Water
One of the keys aside from proper cleansing and moisturizing is to hydrate from the inside out. 8-10 Glasses per day should do the trick. Eliminate as much caffeine as possible to avoid your skin becoming dried out and to avoid potential side effects such as acne.
Get Your Brows in Check
Getting your brows in check before prom can drastically improve your overall look. Heading to the salon to get a good waxing in can help you get a brow shape you really want. Or, you could head to your local eyebrow threading salon where experts can complete the process of threading, sometimes giving you a more natural look than waxing can. Don’t leave your brows to yourself for prom, though. They are far too important to your look to mess up!
Moisturize Your Lips
Applying some moisturizing lip balm for the week before prom and leading up to prom night will help your lips be soft, smooth, and gorgeous for lipstick application. Lipstick in itself has the ability to dry out the lips, so to err on the side of caution and keep your lips looking their best, be sure to keep some hydrating lip balm with you at all times. Opt for brands that have bees wax or Vitamin E for the ultimate in softness.
Use Minimal Makeup
The week before prom, it’s advisable to wear as little makeup as possible. If by chance you forget to wash your makeup off before bed, it can wreak havoc on your skin – and to be honest, no girl wants to deal with that. Avoid wearing makeup as much as possible, but if you must, stick to mineral makeup which has a lower tendency to cause breakouts. For the lips, opt for a lip gloss or even a lip oil for hydration. For the eyes, opt for one coat of mascara and keep it at that.
