It goes without saying that skin care is important, like really important. However, even though we hear how important taking care of our skin is there are still some rules some aren’t living by when it comes to their skin care routine. While sure, there are times when rules are meant to be broken, when it comes to some tips related to skin care they are not meant to be broken. We want to make sure that your skin is taken care of, and you’re well informed so we’re breaking down a few of the skin care rules that you need to know about (and start applying ASAP).
Use Skin Care for Your Skin Type
A common misconception is that anyone can use any skin care product, but it’s just not the case. Just like we all have different body shapes and clothes don’t fit us all the same, skin care doesn’t fit us all the same. Get clear about what your skin type is: dry, oily, combination, normal? If you’re not 100% sure, ask a professional! This is super important to your skin health. Once you know your skin type, you can then seek out skin care products that have been formulated specific to your skin type. This will help ensure you have a much more productive experience with your skin care products.
Remove Your Makeup
You’ve heard it thousands of times by now, but are you doing it? It’s not just removing your makeup but removing it properly and gently. You know your skin is gentle and need to be gentle when going through your skin care routine, the same rule applies when you’re removing your makeup. Make sure you’re using products that don’t cause you to have to scrub your makeup off your face (again, especially around the eyes). Be gentle and don’t rush the process of taking your makeup off. Your future self will thank you for being patient, and so will your skin.
It’s important not to be too rough on your skin, if your face is ending up red after your skin care routine you may be being too rough during the process. This is especially important to keep in mind around the delicate areas of your skin, like the eyes and around the mouth. The skin around those areas are especially delicate and need to be treated that way. It’s important to choose products specific to those delicate areas to help ensure you get the results you’re looking for (and maintain long term results).
Moisturizing your skin is super important. Often those with oily skin will want to avoid moisturizing in fear that it will add more oil/hydration to their skin. But moisturizing is important for all skin types. Again, finding a moisturizer that’s specific to your skin type will help make sure you have results and well-balanced skin.
