Soften & Moisturize

Keeping skin soft and moisturized is incredibly important to keep up with healthy skin, especially as we age.  This is because as we get older we lose a lot of the natural collagen and elasticity in our skin and our skin starts to appear drier and… older.  Ever notice how young skin looks so hydrated and glowy?  It’s because it’s naturally soft and hydrated still, but even though we may be getting older we can still do things to give our skin that boost of softness and moisture.  We’re going to share some of our favorite ways to keep your skin healthy and young all year long.

This is an incredibly popular skin care technique used in Japanese culture.  The main purpose of a skin softener is to add hydration and moisture to the skin.  Most Japanese women use skin softeners in place of toners because they believe in adding moisture, instead of eliminating anything from the skin.  Since toners among some individuals are said to have a drying effect, the use of skin softeners in place of toners helps increase the hydration level of the user’s skin.  Additionally, because softeners are created to well, soften skin they’ve been said to help your serums and moisturizers work better as it preps the skin.

So we all know the importance of having a good moisturizer in your daily skin care routine, but have you thought about switching your moisturizer to accommodate the season?   During the winter months, the air tends to be pretty dry so it’s likely you’re going to want a moisturizer that’s richer and much thicker in consistency to help add the extra moisture your skin will need that time of year.  In turn, in the summer months most of the time, we don’t want skin care products that are too heavy in consistency because they feel, well…heavy.  So to further accommodate your skin and its needs in the summer to stay hydrated but not be too heavy you’re going to want to look for a moisturizer that will give your skin the necessary hydration and moisturizing without being too heavy of a product.

Adapting your skin care to the season and your age is incredibly useful to your skin’s health.  Not only does your skin have different needs from season to season, but also as we age.  No matter what your preferences are when it comes to skin softeners vs. toners, it’s important to try different products to see how your skin adapts to the different techniques.  There’s no one size fits all when it comes to skin care, because all of us have different skin, it does take some trial and error until you find what works best for you.  Once you find products and techniques that work well for your skin you will notice a difference in your skin’s overall appearance.  Regardless, make sure you’re focusing on keeping your skin hydrated and moisturized it will definitely help your skin maintain its health and youthful appearance over time.
