The cold weather is quickly approaching and with that comes the increase of dry, cracking skin. It’s one of those things that’s just grown to become known as a side effect of the colder weather. You’ve probably already noticed your skin is beginning to feel drier than it did during the summer time. One of the best ways of combating dry skin is to stay hydrated (drink up!) and applying moisturizing products regularly. We’re sharing techniques for applying lotion to your body so you’re able to get the maximum benefits from applying it this winter.
Apply It Just Out Of The Shower
Experts suggest that one of the best times to apply lotion to your body is when your skin is still slightly damp, meaning when you’ve just gotten out of the shower or bath. It’s suggested that you pat your skin dry when you’re just out of the water to keep your skin soft – rubbing your skin with a towel can cause irritation and take too much water off your skin. The reason this has been found to be such a great time to apply lotion is because your skin is soft and supple, and more likely to absorb the lotion than other times of the day. Applying your lotion at this time will help you to lock the moisture into your skin really well, and make sure that your skin is actually absorbing the lotion in a beneficial way.
Start At The Bottom and Work Your Way Up
In addition to when to apply lotion to your body, many experts actually suggest that when applying lotion you start at your legs and begin working your way up the body. Doing so will help you to have more control over your application.
Don’t Forget the Little Areas
Of course, when you’re taking the time to apply lotion to your body, it’s important to make sure you take the time to apply the lotion to your entire body – not leaving any areas out. This is especially important when applying lotion to the areas that tend to get drier more often. Think your elbows, knees, and hands. Don’t skip out on those little areas, because they tend to be the spots that give you the most dryness!
It’s All About The Motion
When it comes to applying body lotion, you want to be sure the way that you’re actually applying the lotion is correct to really maximize on your time and effort. It’s suggested that applying a small amount of lotion to an area (about a quarter size), and then beginning to spread the lotion around the area in circular motions is the best formula. Doing this will help to ensure that you have control over the application, and you’re able to actually get your entire body with lotion. In addition, applying in circular motions has been found to help your body absorb the lotion in a much more natural way, giving you the opportunity to really spread the lotion around the body.
